1. What Health Insurance Plans are accepted at PPTS? - Click here
2. Do I have to have a prescription for physical therapy?
A: Yes the state of Michigan requires a physician's written and signed prescription for a physical therapist to administer treatment. However a physical therapist can evaluate your condition without a prescription to determine if you may benefit from treatment.
3. How long is my prescription valid?
A: Upon your first visit, your physical therapist will establish a Plan of Care and send it to your physician for signature. That POC will have a frequency and duration on it. This POC is a very detailed prescription and is good only for the duration that is stated on it (i.e. 3 times a week for 4 weeks). In this case, your prescription is good for 4 weeks from the date of your first visit.
4. Will my insurance cover physical therapy at PPTS?
A: We do accept most insurances, including Blue Cross Blue Shield, Medicare, PPOM and many others including Blue Care Network and Care Choices. When you call to setup your first appointment, our qualified staff will verify your insurance to determine your coverage. The office manager will then review your coverage in detail with you and answer any questions you may have.
5. Once my insurance does pay, how much will I owe?
A: Your amount will depend upon your insurance policy’s deductible and co-pays. As indicated above, our staff will call and verify your benefits and then review them with you. Some plans have no co-pays or deductibles, others may have.
6. I have a busy schedule, when are you open for treatment?
A: We have convenient hours of operation no matter how busy your schedule is. All of our facilities are open Monday thru Friday from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Saturdays from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
7. How long will it take before I can get an appointment?
A: In most cases we will have you scheduled within 24 to 48 hours of your first call. Emergency cases will be seen immediately.
8. What will I need to have with me for my first appointment?
A: You will need to come with your signed, written prescription from your physician, your driver's license, your insurance information, and appropriate attire. (see next question)
9. What should I wear for therapy?
A: Please bring shorts, a loose T-shirt and tennis shoes. Through our experience, these work well. If you do not have shorts, we will be happy to provide you with a pair.
10. Who will I see for my appointments?
A: You will be seen and treated by a licensed physical therapist at every one of your appointments.
11. How long will my appointments last?
A: The duration of each of your appointments depends upon your diagnosis, as well as the treatment recommendation from your therapist. Typically you can expect to be in therapy for 1 hour per visit.
12. Overall, how long will I be in therapy?
A: Again, the duration of your therapy treatment is based on several factors. These include your diagnosis, the number of visits recommended by your physician and therapist, your attendance, and your rate of progression during therapy. Treatment can range from 2 to 4 weeks or even up to 3 to 4 months, depending on these factors.
13. What does CSCS stand for?
A: CSCS stands for Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. This certification is obtained through examination.
14. What does OCS stand for?
A: OCS stands for Orthopedic Certified Specialist. Only physical therapists who are board-certified can use the initials. When someone claims they specialize in orthopedic physical therapy, you should ask if they are board-certified or just using the term specialist.
